— Four people were shot on a basketball court behind Word Tabernacle Church on Edwards Street in Rocky Mount Monday evening, police said.

Officers responded to the area, which is near Edwards Street, at about 6:30 p.m.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims, but all four were taken to local hospitals. One was flown to Vidant Medical Center in Pitt County.

Neighbors said at least one of the victims was a child.

Monday's shooting comes less than two weeks after a 15-year-old was shot and killed in the 700 block of East Highland Avenue.

Happy that I have just moved out of that crime infested area. Rocky Mount is ranked number 41 in the most dangerous cities in the US according to this source anyways http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/neighborhoods/crime-rates/top100dangerous/

Should we spend money to build a useless event center or to fight gun violence? No doubt we should fight gun violence, unless the city council doesn't think it is necessary to fight crime.

No less shocking than a shooting in a street or behind a hospital, or behind a childcare facility. Shootings happen all over the place. Mostly in Rocky Mount, but it happens elsewhere too. But mostly Rocky Mount.

So, is the basketball court church property? Or was the church put in the report for the "Wow" factor?
