Four injured in transit bus wreck in Durham

At least four people suffered minor injuries when a Triangle Transit Bus collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of North Carolina Highway 54 and South Miami Boulevard in Durham on Wednesday morning.

DURHAM, N.C. — At least four people suffered minor injuries when a Triangle Transit Bus collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of North Carolina Highway 54 and South Miami Boulevard in Durham on Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the bus was going east on South Miami Boulevard when it ran a red light and hit a truck and then a car northbound on North Carolina Highway 54. The bus then ran off the road and hit a tree. 

The bus driver, Meg Cabot, 41, and a passenger were taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the pickup truck and a passenger in the truck were also taken to Duke for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Cabot was charged with running a red light and failure to reduce speed. 

Two passengers on the bus, one passenger in the truck and the driver of the Oldsmobile were not injured.

The bus and the pickup truck were heavily damaged and the Oldsmobile sustained moderate damage.
