— At least four people suffered minor injuries when a Triangle Transit Bus collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of North Carolina Highway 54 and South Miami Boulevard in Durham on Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the bus was going east on South Miami Boulevard when it ran a red light and hit a truck and then a car northbound on North Carolina Highway 54. The bus then ran off the road and hit a tree.

The bus driver, Meg Cabot, 41, and a passenger were taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the pickup truck and a passenger in the truck were also taken to Duke for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Cabot was charged with running a red light and failure to reduce speed.

Two passengers on the bus, one passenger in the truck and the driver of the Oldsmobile were not injured.

The bus and the pickup truck were heavily damaged and the Oldsmobile sustained moderate damage.

I'll be happy to say the bus driver should be fired. To hack with quotas!

As someone who carries a CDL we are allowed 1 "gimmee" unless you work for Orange County schools and know someone who works at the central office and can get rid of your 5 wrecks in 6 years. There has to be a conviction before she loses her license and her job.

uhavenoclue- I hate when people don't look at their blind spot! I nearly got killed the other day on the Durham Freeway by someone coming into my lane without looking. No place is immune to bad drivers, unfortunately.

Angry, I think she should be let go. Stopping at red lights was part of her job description. If you can't live up to your duties, time to go.

She is held to a higher standard than the average driver right? So where are all the people on here saying that she should be fired and what not? Funny how when its another profession other than emergency services, those comments never find there way on here...

Transit buses have no respect for the road. The CAT buses downtown Raleigh always take over lanes, run lights, and could care less if a pedestrian is crossing the street.

"@eaglepride-It clearly stated the driver was at fault and ran the light so we don't have to speculate what happened. She ran the light and caused the accident!

Actually, that was not clearly stated when eaglepride posted. That was updated in the story afterwards.

Uhavenoclue- Definitely not just an NC thing. The worst drivers I have EVER seen were in Atlanta, GA. Not only do they not signal, they go from the far right lane across 3 lanes of traffic in order to make a left hand turn. And no, they don't use blinkers, but when someone's driving like that, blinkers are the last of my worries. It's crazy there!
I've seen many here do that as well,They go from one far lane to another at the last minute to make a turn.People should plan their trip before getting into their cars and know what lanes to be in to make their turns.
I can understand some lanes it's obvious what they are doing or going to do but here the main cause is no one knows how to pay attention,to what is around them, like they have tunnel vision and only see in front.
I was told when i first learned to drive look around you and look at the driver mirror,dash/speedometer,rear view mirrow and passenger mirror if you have one and always look at your blind spot.

" thought hwy 54 ran east/west. so how does a car travel northbound on hwy 54??"

Miami and 54 meet at that intersection and (coming from Morrisville or Cary) you'd have to actually take a left in order to still be on 54 because once you go thru the light you are on Miami. Busy, busy intersection and people run that light all the time.....I see it nearly every day (I work in the area). Red light runners.....they make me CRAZY.
