— Three Camp Lejeune Marines and a soldier from Fort Bragg have died in recent days in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Monday.

Marine Lance Cpl. Dennis J. Burrow, 23, of Naples, Fla., died Friday, Lance Cpl. Javier Olvera, 20, of Palmdale, Calif., died Saturday, and Lance Cpl. Patrick W. Schimmel, 21, of Winfield, Mo., died Sunday, officials said. All three were supporting combat operations in Helmand province and were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force.

Authorities are investigating the death of 33-year-old Staff Sgt. Tara J. Smith, of Nashville, N.C., who died Aug. 8 from a non-combat related medical condition at Camp Phoenix. She was assigned to the 50th Signal Battalion, 35th Signal Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg.

"Tara Smith, in addition to being an outstanding noncommissioned officer and leader in the unit, was a bright and charming young woman who will be missed by all," Lt. Col Brian Foley, battalion commander said.

lillann15, hope you do not mind if I echo your kind words
like wise panthers254 your critical words.
The liberal left media & Obama fan club, is very silent about
those brave young people, even as we increase the numbers going over there and losing their lives

I've noticed the anti-war rhetoric and inflated death counts in The Independent have disappeared. Funny how that happened after 1/20/09. War is cool when the left is in charge, apparently.

Liberals can only harp on one subject at a time.

Once, it was the war until the surge began to work. Next came the economy, and now they are harping on the healthcare scam.
