FAIRMONT, N.C. — Four people have been charged in the beating and robbery of a Fairmont High School teacher outside his home last week, authorities said Tuesday.

Roy Lee Bauguess, 63, told investigators that he had returned home on the afternoon of Aug. 10 when two young men knocked on his front door and asked to use his phone. He gave them a cordless phone to use, and the men struck him while standing on the front porch and grabbed his wallet, Bauguess told police.

The pair fled with two young women in a car, and the debit and credit cards in the wallet were used to make several purchases. Police were able to use store security videos to identify several suspects.

Stephen Hunt, 17, and an unidentified 15-year-old boy were charged with common law robbery, and Jessica Hammond, 18, and Stephanie Lozano, 23, were charged with felony conspiracy.
