— Three 18-year-olds and a 16-year-old were arrested Friday after a fight at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, police spokesman Jim Sughrue confirmed Saturday.

Two male students and one female school administrator were injured in the fight, which broke out at about noon outside the school. According to Sughrue, the staff member was assaulted while trying to break up the altercation.

Daquan Wesly Hough, 18, of 1705 Tee Dee St., Raleigh; Darius Josiah Terrell Wright, 18, of 2705 Midway Park Court, Raleigh; Torrey Terrell Smith, 18, of 812 Elkhart Lane, Raleigh, and a 16-year-old were each charged with two counts of assault inflicting serious injury, two counts of ethnic intimidation and one count of assault on a school employee. Hough was also charged with inciting a riot.

Arrest warrants indicate that the administrator was hit with a closed fist and kicked while "protecting a student that was being relentlessly assaulted."

Today, Wednesday Aug 28, there was major police activity while the children from 5 other schools were bussed in to go onto SE High busses to go home (in addition to the students already enrolled at SE High). Reports of individuals on roofs, approximately 15 plus Raleigh Police officers, and general lockdown. All because of reported gun-related gang activity connected to Friday's incident.

THEY HAVE 10-12-year olds from local middle schools witnessing this nonsense!!! How safe are they?

Lessons to be learned: Attending a magnet school is a privilege. Being free to roam society is a privilege. Abuse your privileges and they disappear.

This group got their school photos early for the album. Be sure and get enough copies for your mom and dad to pass out to other family members and friends. I'am sure they are real proud of their sons now.

The public schools don't have the option of turning away or kicking out students who are, or might become, behavior problems. They are required by law to educate every student. We need more emphasis on alternative public schools for students who fight, threaten, bully, etc. Those schools must cost more, however, because they have a smaller staff/student ratio, and they wouldn't be an easy sell to those who complain about raising taxes.

Gotta love the public school system and their "student body".
