Four arrested for break-ins in Fayetteville gated community

Four men would break into cars, steal garage door openers and use them to gain access to homes in the Gates Four and Tarlington communities, authorities said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Four men face charges in a series of thefts from homes in the Gates Four and Tarlington communities, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspects – Earl Edward Cole Jr., 32, of 3108 Muirfield Ave., Cody Lane Cornwell, 18, of 3029 Cricket Road, Earl Dean McLaughlin III, 17, of 2908 Marcus James Drive and Joseph Manly Cox, 16, of 2907 Beckett Court – would break into cars, steal garage door openers and use them to gain access to the homes, authorities said.

They are accused of stealing GPS units, bicycles, televisions, IPods, laptops, a cell phone and a gun.

Cornwell, who was released on $5,000 bond, faces charges breaking and entering, larceny and felony possession of stolen goods.

Cole, McLaughlin and Cox were being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Cole is charged with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, larceny, possession of stolen goods, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen motor vehicle and attempted breaking and entering of a building. His bond was set at $93,000.

McLaughlin is charged with felony first-degree burglary, larceny after the fact, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, conspiracy, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, larceny and possession of stolen goods. His bond was set at $38,000

Cox is charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods. His bond was set at $42,000.

Detectives said they expected to make additional arrests related to this case.
