RALEIGH, N.C. — Ramp work needed for the Interstate 40 rebuild project continues Friday night with the closure of the I-40 West exit ramp for southbound Rock Quarry Road (Exit 300A), as well as the westbound I-40 on ramp.

Both ramps will re-open by 5 a.m. Monday.

At 9 p.m., the right lane of I-40 West will be closed so crews can prepare for the ramp closures, which will start midnight.

Signed detour routes will be in place. Drivers north of I-40 should take Rock Quarry Road to westbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, then use the ramp for Dawson Street, which becomes South Saunders Street, to get to westbound I-40.

Motorists south of I-40 can go east on Rock Quarry Road, turn left on Sunnybrook Road and then right on Poole Road to get on I-440 East and follow that to I-40 West.

Drivers already on I-40 West trying to get to southbound Rock Quarry Road can go on to exit 299, turn left at the end of the ramp to go south, go under I-40 and go right on the ramp for I-40 East to return to the Rock Quarry Road exit.

Motorists are reminded to obey the speed limit and to pay extra attention when traveling through a work zone.
