Fort Bragg spouse sentenced in baby's assault

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The husband of a soldier at Fort Bragg has been sentenced to more than three years in jail for assaulting his 6-month old baby, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. 

Robert A. Carter Jr. 26, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to violently shaking the baby in August 2010. 

The child's mother came home from training and noticed the baby was not acting right and had a seizure. After tests, officials found the baby had been abused.

Carter has been sentenced to 40 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
