Fort Bragg soldiers earn Purple Hearts
FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Three Fort Bragg soldiers were awarded Purple Heart medals in a ceremony at the post Wednesday.

Capt. Shawn Jokinen, Sgt. 1st Class Juan Cando and Staff Sgt. Arnulfo Benitez of the 98th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne) were given the honor for their service in Afghanistan.

The men were wounded during a roadside bom attack on their vehicle on Jan. 3, according to military officials. The men were part of a convoy conducting a humanitarian assistance mission to a village in Khowst Province near the Pakistan border.
