Fort Bragg soldier found dead in Florida home

A Fort Bragg soldier was found dead inside a relative's home in Saint Cloud, Fla. on Jan. 4, the military announced Wednesday.

SAINT CLOUD, FLA. — A Fort Bragg soldier was found dead inside a relative’s home in Saint Cloud, Fla. on Jan. 4, the military announced Wednesday.

Spc. Ryan J. Sanderson, 24, of Saint Cloud, was a scout javelin gunner assigned to 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

Sanderson’s death is under investigation by military and civilian law enforcement. The military did not say whether his death was suspicious.

“The troopers of the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment are truly saddened by the loss of Spc. Sanderson,” said Lt. Col. John Schwemmer, the squadron commander, in a statement. “He will definitely be missed by all those whose lives he has touched. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to Spc. Sanderson’s family as they grieve the loss of their son and our brother in arms.”

Sanderson joined the Army in 2012 and was assigned to Fort Bragg after unit training and airborne school. His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Basic Parachutist Badge.
