Fort Bragg identifies soldier who died

Fort Bragg, N.C. — Fort Bragg officials on Thursday identified a soldier who passed away earlier this week.
Staff Sgt. Hector G. Serrato, 23, of Modesto, Calif., died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Serrato joined the Army in 2008 and was a paralegal noncommissioned officer assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Co., 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Theater Sutainment Command. He previously served overseas in Germany and Kuwait.
Serrato earned two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon and two Overseas Service Ribbons.
Fayetteville police said Thursday the Serrato's death was a suicide.
