Former Wayne County school catches fire

Posted April 12, 2011

— Investigators were trying to determine what started a fire late Monday at a former Wayne County school at 3100 U.S. Highway 117 North.

Flames tore through the gym at the Old Belfast School, which was being used for storage. Part of the building is used for the Wages Head Start Program, but that wasn't damaged.

People driving by the school saw the fire and called 911 at 11:53 p.m., authorities said. Crews got the blaze under control by 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.

This place was soooo old and an eyesore! It was one of those places that you drive by and ask yourself when it's just going to fall down.
