— A former Wake County Public School System employee was sentenced Wednesday to 17½ years in prison for distributing child pornography, authorities said.

Mitchell Byron Hales, 37, of Apex, pleaded guilty in January after FBI agents found him sharing images of child sexual abuse online. A search of his computer turned up thousands of pictures and hundreds of videos of children being sexually abused, authorities said.

Hales was a support technician at the district's central office and had no direct contact with students, officials said.

    Do these people think that they are invulnerable and can do these actions and get away with them?

    When I was growing up, you did not hear it. I do not think they are being caught more. I think that it may be happening more.
    Some are even falsely accused and convicted. Juries just don't care. They feel if you are charged, you are guilty. Anyone who would abuse a child, there is no punishment that would be stiff enough for me. Yes, that includes parents who make their kids lie about it.

    Well, that was certainly a short and disturbing article. Thanks?

    "Are there more pedophiles now a days or are they just being caught more?"
    ============================================

    No just more "macho" guys with five o'clock shadows and tattoos, or a suit and tie with Clark Kent eyeglasses, incapable of emotionally handling adult relationships. They hide behind their veil of "machismo" while exploiting the innocence of youth!!! Nothing more than a pedophile on a power trip....they were always out there, lurking in the shadows.....just that now law enforcement is equipped with better tools to apprehend these evildoers!!

    niceNsmooth.........GREAT question!
    sentence sounds a bit much, unless he is a repeat offender. I do not
    condone it, but we seem to give longer sentences to those who have actually had sexual contact with minors
