Former Wake commissioner Harold Webb dies

Harold Webb, who represented east Raleigh on the Wake County Board of Commissioners from 2003 to 2010, died Friday, according to a local funeral home. He was 92.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Harold Webb, who represented east Raleigh on the Wake County Board of Commissioners from 2003 to 2010, died Friday, according to a local funeral home. He was 92.

Webb grew up in Greensboro and graduated from North Carolina A&T State University.

He later was a teacher and principal in Orange County Schools, held various posts in the state Department of Public Instruction and became the first black person to serve as state personnel director.

Webb is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucille Holcombe Webb; daughter Kaye R. Webb; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, 813 Darby St. in Raleigh, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Carolina Biblical Gardens.

A viewing also will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Haywood Funeral Home, 2415 S. Wilmington St. in Raleigh, with a wake from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church.
