Former teacher gets 5-year sentence in child sex abuse case

Posted September 10

— A former parochial school teacher who admitted molesting a child who was not a student has been sentenced to five years at an adult treatment center for sex offenders.

Joseph Prioli will also be placed on lifetime supervision under the sentence imposed Friday. The 49-year-old Howell man had pleaded guilty in March to two counts of child endangerment.

Prioli was a technology teacher and director at Christian Brothers Academy in Middletown, where he worked for 15 years. He had left the school about a year before he was arrested, and authorities have said there were no reports of any criminal wrongdoing by Prioli during his tenure at the school.

Authorities say Prioli molested his victim on multiple occasions between 2004 and 2012, starting when she was 10 years old.
