A 19-year-old was arrested Thursday after he was found inside a car with a handgun on the Grays Creek High School campus.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were notified of a person in the parking lot with a gun and found a red GMC with an empty holster on the dashboard.

Deputies said occupants were asked to exit the vehicle, and authorities found the handgun in the backseat floor board during a search.

The driver of the car, Brandon Lee Williams, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds.

Authorities said Williams is a former student at Grays Creek.

Williams was being processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center Thursday night and is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon.

The incident is the second to be reported at Grays Creek high school in recent weeks.

On Feb. 23, Christopher Tavon Mitchell, 17, was arrested after he made a threat to bring a gun to school and open fire.

Several similar incidents have been reported in recent weeks as authorities crack down on school threats following the mass shooting at a Florida high school last month.

A Garner Magnet High School student was charged Wednesday after authorities said he brought a gun to school in the waistband of his pants and showed it to fellow students.
Middle Creek High School student Craig Garner West was charged last month after authorities said he brought a pellet gun to school. An attorney for West said the weapon was brought to school accidentally.
A Knightdale High School student who tweeted a photo of himself pointing a gun and tagged Wake County Public Schools was charged with disorderly conduct toward a school and possession of a handgun by a minor.
A Pine Forest High School student told classmates “there will be a school shooting tomorrow” and was charged with making a false threat of mass violence on educational property.

A Douglas Byrd High School student faces the same charge after fellow students reported that he claimed, "I have an AR-15, and I'm going to shoot y'all" during a school bus ride.
