Former Rocky Mount officer indicted on tampering charge

Posted September 15, 2009

A Nash County grand jury indicted a former member of the Rocky Mount Police Department Monday.

Christopher Douglas Johnson, 29, is charged with tampering with evidence, according to information released by the department. He was an officer in Rocky Mount for nearly seven years.

The department released minimal information about the charge, citing personnel laws. An internal investigation led to the criminal investigation, police said.

Johnson surrendered to police Tuesday and was released on $30,000 bond. He's due in court  Oct. 26.

The internal investigation did not implicate anyone else, authorities said.
