John Patrick Alphin died after a single vehicle wreck Friday on Hart Road in Greene County, the highway patrol confirmed. 

SNOW HILL, N.C. — Former North Lenior High School pitcher John Patrick Alphin died after a single vehicle wreck Friday on Hart Road in Greene County, the highway patrol confirmed.

Alphin, 19, of Greenville, was driving a pickup truck along Hart Road when the truck ran off the road. Troopers said Alphin tried to get back onto the road, but he over-corrected and overturned the truck twice. He was ejected.

Alphin was transported to Wayne County Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

The former state championship pitcher was enrolled at East Carolina University.
