Former North Carolina Insurance Commissioner John Ingram has died, the state Department of Insurance said Monday.

Ingram represented Randolph County in the state legislature from 1971 to 1972 before being elected to head the Department of Insurance, where he served as commissioner for 12 years.

Current state Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin offered condolences to Ingram's family in a statement Monday.

"He served the great state of North Carolina for many years, and his commitment to public service and focus on consumer protection as insurance commissioner will not be forgotten," Goodwin said.

When Ingram was Insurance Commish, My dad (who ALWAYS voted Republican) said, "Even though he's a Democrat, make sure you vote for Ingram...he's a good man".

I got to meet Mr. Ingram several times and worked with folks in his office during his tenure. A very nice and professional man who would be greatly appreciated in the politics of today!

WOW! Sad to hear this. John Ingram was one of the best. A real representative of the people.

".....,this is one Gentleman who put aside polictics and actually worked for the people of NC."

Completely agree. He actually had integrity.

This so sad. For many who may not be old enough, this is one Gentleman who put aside polictics and actually worked for the people of NC. Back in his day, you could call them and get some action. Not like that now.
