Former Kinston councilman pleads guilty to child porn charge
A former Kinston City Council member pleaded guilty Monday to a federal child pornography charge, authorities said.
Posted — UpdatedWilliam Walter Barker, 44, pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography. He will be sentenced later and faces five to 20 years in prison.
According to investigators, a USB drive containing sexually explicit images and other documents was found in Fremont Town Hall last year. Barker had attended a Board of Aldermen meeting to discuss the town audit, which his firm conducted, and the USB drive was found near where he had been sitting, authorities said.
Authorities linked the USB drive to Barker, and a search of his Kinston home turned up more than 4,000 images and 100 videos of child pornography on a laptop computer, authorities said.
