SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A former school resource officer at West Johnston High School faces indecency charges after sending pictures of himself to a student, authorities said Friday.

Todd Fair, 40, was charged Thursday with two counts of disseminating obscenity to a minor under age 16 and one count of indecent liberties with a child. He was released on bond.

Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell fired Fair in October after the deputy admitted to sending "inappropriate photographs of himself" to a student. It's unclear when the photos were sent.

Bizzell turned the case over to the State Bureau of Investigation and Johnston County District Attorney Susan Doyle.
