Former Johnston school officer faces indecency charges

Posted December 17, 2010

— A former school resource officer at West Johnston High School faces indecency charges after sending pictures of himself to a student, authorities said Friday.

Todd Fair, 40, was charged Thursday with two counts of disseminating obscenity to a minor under age 16 and one count of indecent liberties with a child. He was released on bond.

Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell fired Fair in October after the deputy admitted to sending "inappropriate photographs of himself" to a student. It's unclear when the photos were sent.

Bizzell turned the case over to the State Bureau of Investigation and Johnston County District Attorney Susan Doyle.

"Yet another of those 99.8% of all LEO's who are the "good guys". Maybe that's just 99.7% now. Rest well LEO NC, this one was a real cop." dwr1964

dwr, that department has 100+ deputies. How do the actions of one make the other 99% suddenly evil aliens from planet X that shouldn't be trusted? So if one of your co-workers tomorrow is arrested does that mean YOU are automatically a criminal too? Better yet, someone who has a similar job to your a 100 miles away screws up, should you be equally blamed? I hope you get a clue for Christmas.

Predators are present in all walks of life, not just in the public school system. We must get tougher laws to prevent this from happening but we must also teach our children how to protect themselves. We must become parents & know who our children are associating with in order to protect them It starts in the home. This is not a new crime but thank God there are things we can do to protect our children and it is up to us make sure that laws are in place to be enforced and the judicial system has to make sure they are enforced as well. If we don't then our children will continue to be victimized.

He was fired from the job in October when he admitted to sending the pictures. It is now December people. Why was he not arrested 1 1/2-2 months ago?

"What in the ham sandwich is going on with those working in our schools these days?"

I hate to break it to anyone, but it is not a recent phenomena. While there are many good and decent people in the school system, there are some who purposely seek a career/job that puts them in charge of children. They're also found in Church positions as well.

ksh33 - I completely agree with you, but do want to remind you of the many good and decent teachers and educational professionals. These cases are a few rotten tomatoes out of the thousands in Wake County. Most find these cases despicable, and would never, ever hurt a student in any way.
