POLKTON, N.C. — A former soldier at Fort Bragg died at a prison in Polkton Sunday where he was serving time for the 2011 death of his 17-year-old neighbor.

Officials found 25-year-old Christopher Blackett in his cell at the Lanesboro Correctional Institute after an apparent suicide. Blackett died after resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Blackett, from California, was a soldier at Ft. Bragg before he was convicted in August for the death of his Spring Lake neighbor, Vincent Carlisle II. Blackett was in the process of serving more than 26 years in prison for second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Blackett’s death is under investigation.
