Former Fayetteville high school basketball coach faces 55 additional charges

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities said Friday morning that Rodney Scott, a former basketball coach at Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, faces 55 additional child sex charges.

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department said the new charges stemmed from incidents that occurred at Scott's home between March and December 2014.

Scott, 50, of the 2300 block of Vestal Avenue, was charged with 11 counts of statutory sex offense, 11 counts of sexual activity by a substitute parent, 11 counts of indecent liberties with a child, 11 counts of child abuse by sexual act and 11 accounts of crimes against nature.

The warrants were served on Scott at the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he has remained since his arrest on May 2.

Police said they have investigated dozens of new allegations of abuse, some of which date to the 1990s.

Scott’s bond was increased from $800,000 to $17.3 million. In total, Scott faces 65 sex-related charges.
