Former Apex gym coach faces molestation charges
A man convicted three years ago of molesting children at a Sanford gym has been charged with inappropriately touching two girls when he worked as a coach at an Apex gym, police said Wednesday.

Phillip Darryl Thompson, 35, of 3712 Stoney Glen Drive in Winston-Salem, was charged with four counts of indecent liberties with a minor. He was being held in the Forsyth County jail, and police said they expect to bring him back to the Triangle on Thursday.
Thompson was a coach at Impact Gym in Apex from early 2001 until the end of 2003, police said. The girls were 6 and 9 years old at the time of the alleged incidents.
Impact Gym is no longer in business.
Capt. Ann Stephens of the Apex Police Department said the two girls recently disclosed the allegations against Thompson, but she said it's unclear whether there were any other victims.
Thompson is a registered sex offender, having been convicted in Lee County in 2009 of two counts of sexual battery. That case involved a 6-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl while he was a coach at the Sanford Academy of Cheerleading, Martial Arts, Dance and Gymnastics.
