For a dog named Zeus, a chance to go home again

“Doesn't bark, doesn't attack you when you come home. Just wants to be petted,” Pat Williams said of the mellow dog with the mythological name. “We don’t know much about his life story.”

Williams’ daughter found Zeus in Durham. They took him to a vet, where they discovered he had a microchip. From there, they learned he originally belong to a military family named the Harworths.

“We know that the Harworths adopted him from the kennel in Georgia, and they were transferred to Korea for a few years and left him with a family friend here in NC,” Terry Williams said. “And in December 2012, they were told that Zeus had died.”

No one knows where Zeus had been since that December, but what matters to his original owners is that he is alive and will soon join them in Washington.

Rachel Overby, a manager with Banfield Pet Hospital, volunteered to drive Zeus to Washington.

"We are headed to Nashville, Tenn., today," she said. "I’m just excited to be getting him home.”

Zeus will arrive in Washington by Friday. But first, he had to say goodbye to another family - the Williamses.

“We love him,” Terry Williams said. “He’s easy to love.”
