Foot chase at Kinston funeral home ends in arrest of man, teen

A 20-year-old and a 15-year-old were arrested Friday during an armed robbery at a funeral home.

KINSTON, N.C. — A 20-year-old and a 15-year-old were arrested Friday during an armed robbery at a funeral home.

Around 5:30 p.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to an armed robbery at Swinson's Funeral Home located at 208 East Blount Street.

According to authorities, an official at the funeral home told officers that two males had approached him at gunpoint and demanded money.

Upon arriving to the scene, officers located the suspects and chased them by foot before they were captured. Mark Branthoover, 20, of Kinston, and a 15-year-old were arrested and charged with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, second-degree kidnapping, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting a public officer.

Branthoover was being held in the Lenoir County Jail under a $1.2 million dollar bond, and the teenager is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center in Greenville.
