Select Food Lion stores have begun accepting competitor's coupons!

A statement from the Food Lion corporate office indicates: "At Food Lion, we understand the importance of extra savings. Now, in select markets, including the greater Wilmington, Greenville, Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C., areas, we will test the acceptance of competitor coupons in conjunction with our current coupon policy. To take advantage of this new policy, customers may present a competitor's coupon to an associate during checkout."

I have requested additional information regarding the new competitor's coupons policy and these were their answers:

Will Food Lion take competitors coupons from grocery stores, drug stores, dollar stores, etc in the area?

Food Lion will accept any coupons from any competitor. Limit one "Dollar-Off-Total-Order" coupon per purchase, per transaction, per person, per day and must meet or exceed purchase requirements. Food Lion will honor only (2) of the competitor coupons of the specified items that are purchased.

Are there any stores/store types that they will not take them from?

No.

Will the stores take printable competitor coupons?

Food Lion does not accept printable coupons.

Can the coupons be for an amount off of a specific product, for a total off your total order or either? (like .50/1 Kraft cheese or $3 off a $30 purchase?)

Yes. These coupons are defined as "item specific," such as $.50 off hair care product or "dollar-off-total-order," such as $10 off $50 purchase.

Considering the increasing grocery competition in the Triangle, including multiple new Publix stores in the next year and the new Wegman's store opening in Cary, this is probably a good move on Food Lion's part.

Do you think that this new policy will encourage you to shop at Food Lion more?
