— People scrambled to snatch cash that was blowing in the wind near the intersection of North New Hope Road and U.S. Highway 401 in Raleigh Sunday afternoon.

Police said a woman accidentally left her purse on top of her car after leaving the grocery store. She had about $300 in cash in her purse, which then scattered into the air and onto the roadway.

Traffic was disrupted at the intersection around 2 p.m. as people hurried out of their cars to catch the bills.

No serious traffic problems resulted from the cash grab.

Police said the woman was able to retrieve most of her money as well as the belongings that flew out of her purse.

This reminds me of a "money tree" I encountered years ago when my oldest child was a baby. I was heading out of our driveway one morning on the way to daycare then work when I noticed money in a bush near the road. I put the car in park and delighedly plucked 24 one dollar bills out of the bush that had obviously flown out someone's window!

I was sadly disappointed in this article because I read the headline as "flying monkey disrupts traffic". Now THAT would have been interesting.

gob_gobbler...I just thought people "found" the lost money, instead of "took" the lost money. My bad. Thanks for not calling me a "common thief" for being optimistic.

Guys, did you read the article?

"Police said the woman was able to retrieve most of her money as well as the belongings that flew out of her purse."

This is a story about a woman whose purse fell off her car, spilling cash and stuff on the road, and people who went out into the street to get it for her.

ripetomatoes, I jumped to a conclusion thinking she didn't get her money back because some people stopping may have kept some of the money. Chances are, she didn't find it all, and maybe the ones who stopped did give it all back. I don't know all the facts, and I was wrong to judge based on the available information. I probably was prejudiced by an article I read about a similar situation involving a money spill in another part of the country. In that situation, people picked up the "flying cash", and drove off. My bad.

why didn't people give the money back to her. Sad sad state of the world.

I would love to see the video.

And yes, ripetom, since it was HER money and people took it, they took it from HER. If you think that's a stretch you're a common thief who would have stolen the whole purse, given the chance. Terkel

My, the kind words from strangers. No need to ask me to meet you behind the swing set after school.

Nobody "took" money from this lady.

But, if you "found" any of this lady's money that she carelessly lost, you should return it to her. That would be the right thing to do. Also, I wasn't raised to call each other bad names. It's all in the way things are communicated. As I'm sure you can tell by now. Have a nice day.

I thought it was Monkeys too. Had to turn my head around and check behind me, just to be sure.

If you took money from this woman, you should do the right thing...find her, and give it back. Just say'n..... gob_gobbler

Took money? That's a real stretch...
