A registered sex offender from Florida will go before a judge in Cumberland County Wednesday after being charged with sexual abuse in connection with incidents involving a 5-year-old.

Jeremy John Wahl, 37, of Valparaiso, Fla., is charged with first-degree statutory sex offense, sexual act by a substitute parent and taking indecent liberties with a minor.

According to investigators, Wahl assaulted the child multiple times between March 1 and April 2.

Wahl was in the Cumberland County jail Wednesday under a $250,000 bond after being extradited from a Florida jail.

I was under the impression that a registered sex offender could NOT be around children or within a certain distance of places like schools and playrounds. Am I right or wrong? Is it different for those registered offenders from out of state, or must they abide by NC laws when residing here?

I pray for this child bc of this man they will never trust and that it so sad!! He needs to go to jail and not come out. Our world is just so bad now!! Praying for this poor child!

why didnt he get the 175 years in jail... good thing he didnt rob a dollar store

The sentence should be more severe for a second time offender, Not only is this offense against a child, its against a 5 year old. No way could they have defended themselves even if they had wished to. Hopefully the justice system will prevail this time around.

Ok - he is a "registered sex offender". Charge whom ever left their child with him too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a sick and sad world we live in today. God be with us!!
