MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Flying to Texas? Check your flight.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport tweeted on Friday morning that people flying to the Lone Star State should check with their airlines before getting to the airport as Hurricane Harvey barrels down on on the Gulf Coast. Airlines flying to Austin, San Antonio and Houston offered waivers to change flights through Sunday without a penalty.

The storm strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane, and it's expected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday. Many towns along the coast, like Corpus Christi, are boarding up buildings and evacuating.

The hurricane hadn't caused a disruption at RDU as of mid-afternoon, but airport spokesman Andrew Sawyer said that could change as the storm comes ashore.

The Corpus Christi airport announced that flights there will be canceled as of Friday night, and Sawyer noted that, if the storm impacts the Dallas area, it would cause a major ripple effect because many flights out of RDU have connections through Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
