RALEIGH, N.C. — The orchestra pit at the Fletcher Opera Theater might get bigger.

The Raleigh City Council has asked how much it would cost to expand the theater at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts at 500 Fayetteville Street Mall.

The theater seats 600 and is designed for opera, dance and theatrical productions. The Carolina Ballet and the National Opera Company also use the performance space.

The study, funded by the A.J. Fletcher Foundation, will cost about $35,000. Findings will be presented to the City Council in a few months.
