Five nabbed in alleged Rocky Mount murder plot

Officers stopped a champagne Chevrolet Tahoe that matched the vehicle description given by the tispter in the 1300 block of Raleigh Road on Thursday evening, police said. They seized four handguns and ammunition from the SUV.

Mabry was also charged with solicit to participate in criminal street gang activity. Tillery and Romain face additional charges of pattern of criminal street gang activity, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a minor.

All three were given $75,000 secured bonds.

Mabry is the all-time high scoring basketball player for Rocky Mount High School and graduated in 2010. He committed to play for the University of Rhode Island but withdrew last September.

Ricks was also charged with pattern of criminal street gang activity, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. Alston faces those same charges and counts of assault on a female, communicating threats and felony and misdemeanor probation violations.

Ricks was given a $100,000 secured bond. Alston was denied bond for the probation violations and received a $108,000 secured bond for the other charges.

Alston was on probation for 2010 convictions for felony breaking and entering and possessing stolen goods, according to state Department of Correction records. He was also convicted of common-law robbery in 2008 and served 10 months in jail.

Ricks has five break-in and larceny convictions dating to 2007, DOC records show. He has served three terms totaling a year in jail.
