Five charged in shooting of Pitt County teen

Grimesland, N.C. — Five Pitt County people, including a 15-year-old, face charges in connection with a robbery attempt and shooting that wounded a teenager last week.
Sheriff's deputies said that a group of people tried to rob a car occupied by four people at Ariel and Silverado drives in Grimesland early Sept. 10. The driver sped away, and one of the would-be robbers fired shots at the vehicle.
A 15-year-old boy in the car was shot and treated at University Health Systems for non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.
Hakiem Leangelo Ruffin, 23, of 4728 Ariel Drive, Armani Newkirk, 19, of 4779 Ariel Drive, Christopher Marquette Williams, of 4707 Hannia Court, and Talaya Lucas, 19, of 4708 Hannia Court, face charges of
- assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
- shooting into an occupied vehicle causing serious injury
- armed robbery with a dangerous weapon
- conspiracy to commit armed robbery
A 15-year-old, whose name wasn't released, was also charged in connection with the case. He was being held at the Pitt Juvenile Regional Detention Facility.
