Fit is key when picking Halloween costumes for pets

Halloween is nearly here, and humans aren't the only ones looking for the perfect costume for Thursday night's festivities.

Halloween is nearly here, and humans aren't the only ones looking for the perfect costume for Thursday night's festivities.

Halloween costumes for pets have become so popular and mainstream that you no longer have to go to dog specialty stores to find costumes for your pets. Target, Walmart and the Dollar Store, along with many other stores, sell costumes for cats and dogs.

Sure, it's totally unnecessary and – in many cases – quite silly. But I love it.

As long as a costume doesn't stress out your pet or restrict their movement, they can be a lot of fun.

Personally, I had high hopes for Baxter and Lily's costumes this year.

Lily was going to be a cow, as she is white with black spots. Baxter was going to be a tiger, but his costume was just a little small.

A switch was necessary – Lily became the pig and Baxter the cow.

Baxter loves to get his photo taken, and he was very excited to have his Halloween photo taken.
Lily did not want anything to do with her Halloween hat. And she really goes nuts when I put something on Baxter. She loves to tug at whatever he's wearing like it's a toy.

As you prepare for your Halloween events this week, double check the fit and safety of not just your child's costume, but your pet's costume as well!

Are you dressing up your pet this year? Be sure to send us your photos.
