BUFFALO, N.Y. — Angier resident Luz De Jesus booked her flight from North Carolina to Buffalo, N.Y., months ago to see family.

She wasn’t prepared to see so much snow.

"They've gotten over 6 feet of snow. They were completely house-bound,” she said of her family.

Buffalo homeowner Ed Benarczyk said heavy snowfall – including the record 7 feet that fell in three days and killed at least 12 people – is part of life in his part of the country.

“You worry about the roof collapsing,” he said.

Benarczyk has been pushing a snow blower since Tuesday. His wife was using a rake to get snow off the roof.

"We’ve gotten our annual total snowfall this week,” Benarczyk said. “Mostly over two days.”

Snow removal has been nearly nonstop in Buffalo, where the weight of snow has collapsed some roofs.

“It just went on relentless,” homeowner John Flanagan said. “We’re hearing creaks and cracks in the house, and we’ve got to get on the roof.”

Flanagan said he’s lived through many storms in the area, but none quite like this.

"It came so quick and so sudden and so heavy,” he said.
