Fish and Game hosts free fur trapping seminar

Posted September 10

— Trapping has a long history in New Hampshire, but the techniques have changed over the years. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is bringing people up to speed with a free workshop this week.

The seminar will feature professional trappers who will explore the skills and modern relevance of fur trapping.

Patrick Tate, the department's furbearer biologist, says trapping has become more popular, and licensed trappers are increasingly called upon for a variety of reasons, such as removing nuisance wildlife or helping restore endangered species.

And he says trappers help the state find the right balance between people and wildlife when it comes to abundant species such as beaver.

The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday night at the Fish and Game Department headquarters in Concord.
