First Night's Art Putt to open for early play Friday

Posted December 30, 2016

Art Putt, a miniature golf course that's part of downtown Raleigh's First Night New Year's Eve celebration, will open for early play at 2 p.m., Friday.

Each of Art Putt's nine holes are designed by local artists using a variety of different mediums. I played the course with my own kids last year and had a lot of fun. This year, the course includes everything from graffiti artwork to an underwater seascape and Krispy Kreme donuts, according to a press release.

You can find Art Putt on Market Plaza between 227 and 239 Fayetteville Street. It will be open from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, but the public can get in an early round starting at 2 p.m., today. (Kids also might enjoy seeing crews put together the Ferris wheel and pirate ship ride, also part of First Night, on Fayetteville Street).

I wrote about Art Putt, the rides and other kid-friendly First Night activities earlier this week.

The early play is part of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance's POP! series, which aims to bring to life public spaces in downtown Raleigh.

“We’re excited about it,” said Craig Reed, the Downtown Raleigh Alliance's director of events. “This is the type of event we envisioned for our plazas in downtown when the POP! program started. It’s interactive, fun, and turns our plazas into more than just a walking path between Wilmington and Fayetteville Streets.”

Mini golfers play for free with a First Night wristband on both Friday and Saturday. On Friday only, a round costs $5. Patrons who mention POP! will receive a $1 discount.
