RALEIGH, N.C. — The winner of the 12th annual City of Oaks Marathon crossed the finish line right before 9:45 a.m. with a run time just over two hours and 39 minutes.

"It's kind of crazy, it's a lot of hills," Carter Binge, the winner, told WRAL news at the finish line.

Thanks to Daylight Saving Time, Binge and thousands of other participants got an extra hour of sleep Sunday morning before the big Raleigh race.

Temperatures were brisk and the sun was bright as participants gathered at the starting line at the N.C. State bell tower on Hillsborough Street at 7 a.m. for a scenic two-footed tour through downtown Raleigh.

City of Oaks, which offers participants a marathon, half-marathon, 10K, 5K and 1-mile fun run for kids, takes participants down Fayetteville Street, the State Capitol Building, Glenwood South and around Meredith College and N.C. State University.

The race benefits the REX HealthCare Foundation, the YMCA of the Triangle and Girls on the Run of the Triangle. WRAL is proud to serve as the event's presenting sponsor.
