First Friday Best Bet: Pet caricatures

Posted January 30, 2013

— First Friday is this week, and our Best Bet this month is an art show featuring pet caricature art.

Local artist Char Reed will be at Benelux Cafe from 7-9 p.m. showcasing her work. She even has a caricature of Bo Obama, the President's dog, which she sent to him as an inauguration present!

Reed helps out the SPCA of Wake County by drawing portraits of adoptable pets that need a good home. The star of her show this week is a tribute piece to Newphie, a cat at the SPCA. Reed did a portrait of Newphie to help him find a home, but he was then diagnosed with a terminal illness. In his honor, Reed is donating all of the proceeds she receives from her "Newphie" print to the SPCA.

Char ReedOne of Reed's newest pieces is of Snickerdoodle, a loving pup in need of a forever home. Just look at that big smile. (Reed's blog says that if you adopt her, she'll give you a "Snickerdoodle" print for free – what a deal!)

This is a perfect event for pet lovers and art aficionados alike. Reed would love for you to come by, talk and check out her art.

Be sure to check out our complete First Friday blogpost for more events and specials!
