First Friday is this week, and our Best Bet is an educational and fun walk through Raleigh's historic Oakwood Cemetery.
The Facts & Fables Flashlight Walks have become a popular First Friday attraction this year. The cemetery staff offers two simultaneous tours: one is a Confederate Cemetery tour, highlighting the cemetery's Civil War past, and the other rotates every month so visitors can have a completely different Flashlight Walk experience.

If you're hesitant about walking around in the dark in a cemetery, don't worry! The tours are meant to be engaging and educational, not scary. Learning about local history and the cemetery's residents in a fun and unique way is Oakwood Cemetery's mission.

The hour-long walk is $5, which goes toward cemetery upkeep and preservation costs. You can register in advance for tours (which are held the first Friday of every month) by calling the cemetery at 919-832-6077. Don't forget to bring a flashlight!
