RALEIGH, N.C. — A parade and memorial service was held on Saturday to honor North Carolina firefighters who have died in the line of duty since 1902.

The event honored 207 firefighters, including 17 that were added to the memorial for the first time.

The parade went through downtown Raleigh. The memorial service took place at historic Nash Square.

Members of the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NCFFF), North Carolina Unified Honor Guard, North Carolina Unified Pipes and Drum Band, and families and friends of firefighters lost in the line of duty attended the events.

The NCFFF compiles, maintains and makes available information concerning fallen firefighters to the public.
