FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Firefighters battled a fire at a church Monday night in Fayetteville.

The two-alarm fire started just after 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of the original Trinity Baptist Church, located at 1305 Hillsboro St. The blaze quickly spread through the wood-frame structure.

A fireman was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after he twisted his ankle while extinguishing the blaze.

Fire investigators said homeless people may have started the blaze, however, the cause remained under investigation.
