— The engine of a CTran bus caught fire on Buck Jones Road in Cary Thursday afternoon.

The bus was at the intersection of Buck Jones Road and Nottingham Drive, across from South Hills Mall & Plaza, when the fire broke out.

Two people, including the driver, were on the bus at the time. They were not injured, according to Cary spokeswoman April Raphiou.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but not before it left the bus a charred wreck.

CTran operates three fixed routes and offers door-to-door service for disabled and elderly people.

Thanking God no one was hurt.

But man - what if the bus had been full. Shudder to think.

    God bless.

In hindsight I should have eased up on the scotch last night. My hangover was so bad I forgot to tighten the fuel line this morning. Oh well, no one got hurt.

    Signed, the bus mechanic.

"Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but not before it left the bus a charred wreck."

This leaves me with great faith in our public transportation system. Thank you WRAL.
