Fire ousts eight families from Raleigh townhomes

Twenty-four people were evacuated after a townhouse building caught fire Monday evening at 2605 New Hope Church Road in Raleigh.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Twenty-four people were left without a place to stay after fire burned their townhouse building  Monday evening at 2605 New Hope Church Road in Raleigh, dispatch officials said.

The fire began just after 9 p.m. and spread through six units.

Seventy firefighters extinguished the blaze which destroyed two units. Two other units sustained fire damage and two suffered smoke damage.

No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was helping the displaced families find temporary housing.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday evening.
