Fire hazard causes Genie garage door opener recall
Posted February 25, 2014
A recall has been issued for Genie garage door openers due to a fire hazard.
The control board on the Genie Pro TriloG1200 and 1500 models, as well as the PowerMax 1200 and 1500 models, could overheat, causing a fire hazard.
The garage openers are gray and have a rating of ¾ HPc for models ending in 1200 and 1 HPc for models ending in 1500. “Genie” and the model name appear on both sides of the opener.
There have been four reports of control board overheating. No injuries were reported.
Users should contact Genie to request a free repair kit, which includes a new control board and installation instructions.
The garage door openers were sold across the country, including at Home Depot and Lowes, between August 2011 and October 2012.
