ANGIER, N.C. — Two people were killed early Saturday after a home southeast of Angier caught fire, Johnston County authorities said.

Crews responded to the home, at 2028 County Line Road, about 2 a.m. It wasn't clear what started the blaze, but the home was completely destroyed.

Neighbors told WRAL News that Leon Johnson Jr., the home's owner, and a woman were inside the home at the time of the fire. Ronnie Smith said Johnson and the woman had lived in the home for several years.

"They didn't ever meet a stranger," Smith said.

Authorities did not release the names of the people killed, but a Johnston County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said the bodies were sent to the Officer of the State Medical Examiner for autopsies.

Investigators said they do not suspect foul play. No other information was immediately available.
