— An administrative building for the John Avery Boys and Girls Club in Durham caught fire Sunday morning, destroying sports equipment, program supplies and 73 years' worth of photos.

"(The photos) can't be replaced," club spokeswoman Sheila Ryba said in an email Sunday afternoon. "It's awful."

The building, at 511 Grant St., is across the street from the club, at 808 E. Pettigrew St.

It is "completely gutted," according to a Durham police spokesperson. Fire broke out on the first floor shortly after 7 a.m. and it took firefighters about three hours to extinguish and investigate, said Durham Fire Chief Dan Curia.

No one was inside the building at the time and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Curia said there is no indication of arson.
