A fire destroyed a home in Benson early Tuesday, firefighters said.

<b>BENSON, N.C.</b> — A fire destroyed a home in Benson early Tuesday, firefighters said.

A woman and her dog both escaped unharmed from the fire at 144 Creekstone Drive around 12:30 a.m., firefighters said. Five fire departments responded to the blaze.

The home was a total loss, firefighters said. The fire marshal was investigating the cause.
