Apex, N.C. — Hundreds of gallons of water used to extinguish a barn fire in Apex Wednesday night could cause slick road conditions for the morning, authorities said.
Firefighters said flames were bursting through the roof of a two-story, wood-working barn behind a home on Olive Chapel Hill Road when they arrived around 8:30 p.m. Water had to be trucked in by tankers to extinguish the fire.
Authorities said they worry the water will freeze overnight and create icy patches on Olive Chapel and Richland roads. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
No one was injured in the fire.
Police initially reported that the fire was at Olive Chapel Baptist Church, at 600 New Hill Olive Chapel Road, but later confirmed that the church was not affected.
