APEX, N.C. — A fire that erupted at an Apex home Saturday afternoon left a family homeless, firefighters said.

Capt. Donald Pierce, with the Fairview Fire Department, said firefighters were called out to the blaze at 3604 Arthur Pierce Road at 12:24 p.m. Crews labored for more than an hour to put out the fire completely.

No one was home at the time, and no one was injured.

The home was a total loss, although the residents managed to retrieve some personal belongings, Pierce said. They are staying with relatives.

Pierce said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears that it was started by an electrical malfunction in the garage.
